The Truth About Japan’s Earthquake

March of 2011 may set records when it comes to devastating disasters. Earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, extreme weather conditions and more. However, nothing really comes close to the two-pronged threat posed by the March 12, 2011 Earthquake, which could be one of the most severe of all time. Rated between 9.0 and 9.4, depending on who you listen to, the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks have caused $310 billion in damage as of this writing, with more than six thousand dead and seventeen thousand still missing. It also created a potential nuclear nightmare.

The first fruit of the earthquake was a massive tsunami that stretched east to the west coast of the United States. America managed to avoid wholesale destruction of the kind seen in Japan. The Japanese are known for being prepared for things like earthquakes, but this earthquake caught them off guard. It was very powerful and created the additional nightmare of a tsunami that made landfall with elevations ranging from thirty to eighty feet.

The Truth About Japan’s Earthquake

Earthquakes that occur under the sea often create the most damaging tsunami waves. Such waves can be thirty to eighty feet high when they hit the shoreline. The speed and power of the tsunami wave is irresistible and devastating for anyone and anything that stands in its way. Ships, land vehicles, buildings, and people are often tossed around like tiny toys in a bathtub. Even the natural shape of the soil can be changed by the power of this phenomenon. The water withdrawn after huge waves can easily pull people and objects into the ocean.

Residents of towns on the Japanese coast had little time to prepare for what would become record-breaking wave heights making their way into what was considered tsunami-safe areas. A twenty-three-foot-high wave made landfall at the speed of a jumbo jet and managed to penetrate six miles before starting to retreat. Huge waves destroyed people, vehicles and buildings of all sizes. Nothing can stand and survive in the face of this colossal force of nature.

The Truth About Japan’s Earthquake

Power outages, shortages of clean water, food shortages, and thousands of corpses washing up on the shores of Japan’s coasts brought the possibility of a sudden nuclear disaster. Numerous reactors and containment buildings for their spent fuel were damaged in the earthquake. Despite the valiant efforts of employees at several nuclear power plants, the threat looks worse than ever. Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has become more and more gloomy and pessimistic when addressing the Japanese People and the world.

The most frustrating thing for the average American is that our national news media cannot tell the truth about the scale of the nuclear problem facing Japan and the world right now. It’s as if it either doesn’t exist or will never reach the shores of America. Even religious leaders and broadcasters seem to ignore the nuclear situation. Many are more focused on using earthquakes and tsunamis as fundraising tools for their individual programs and ministries around the world.

The Truth About Japan’s Earthquake

A few days after the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, a national religious broadcaster was in the middle of an annual fundraising effort. Despite running a text graphic at the bottom of the screen asking people to pray for the Japanese, they didn’t mention the twin catastrophes during their live show and made no mention of the nuclear threat posed by the damaged power plants. Instead, the responsible preacher asked people to send him ten dollars to receive financial blessings for a new internet ministry. If you don’t have ten dollars, he suggested people go to their neighbors, borrow the money and send it to him.

It’s time for people to understand what’s really going on in Japan. Within forty-eight hours after the earthquake, a spokesperson for the Association of Concerned Scientists appeared on The Today Show and stated that the area around the Fukishima facility was recording a million times higher than normal trace radiation levels. As of this writing, radiation levels of the same area are said to be ten thousand times above safe limits. The seawater around the Fukishima reactors is now highly polluted with levels over 1000 times normal.

More frightening than the current situation is that radiation from one or more nuclear reactors in Japan has been seeping into the world’s natural environment for more than a year. Several scientists pointed out that the reactors had not been properly inspected for more than a decade. They also say that previous earthquakes and tremors in Japan may have caused as yet undetected damage, explaining the mysterious deaths of fish and birds worldwide over the past few years.

On March 9, 2011, more than a million dead sardines blocked a marina in Red.
